Recently The Curated Kitchen was featured on one of my favourite blogs, B.LOVED, with this gorgeous Mediterranean Romance styled shoot. Dreamed up by Jacquie of White Olive Design Studio and Jeni of Vanilla Rose Weddings, the idea was to bring the best elements of a destination wedding to an English setting, to show how you can create an elegantly rustic Mediterranean style wedding anywhere. And, since countryside weddings on the continent typically include tables piled high with plates of delicious food, I was asked to recreate that feeling with a beautifully styled Mediterranean grazing table. I was only too happy to oblige!
The sharing and appreciation of food is such an important part of French and Italian style eating. Because they’re so social and decadent, grazing tables are a perfect way of capturing the essence of this kind of big family meal, making them my go-to wedding catering recommendation if you want to recreate that destination wedding vibe at home. For this shoot, I produced a delectable feast of fresh organic produce and homemade treats. This included Mediterranean classics like peppers, figs, plump cherry tomatoes, and juicy slices of blood orange. A selection of cheeses was a must, as was a yummy charcuterie spread. There were also artisan breads and crackers, olives, nuts and berries, and a selection of relishes and fresh summer salads. We styled the Mediterranean grazing table on a raw wood board set atop two wine barrels in an outdoor courtyard, and used a mix of luxurious white and marble platters and rough wooden ones to create a look of rustic elegance. The centerpiece was a classic buttercream celebration cake, which was decorated with simple olive leaf garlands.
Beyond the grazing table, the shoot included lots of other stealable ideas if you’re hoping to capture some Mediterranean destination wedding style for your event. This included a stunning ceremony setting with an olive branch arch and fabric backdrop, and an olive tree escort card display that would be a magical way to send guests to their seats. In fact, olive leaves were woven through several elements, from the bouquet to the wedding stationery. I also loved the way that the grazing feel was carried through to the table design, which included little dishes of olives, blackberries and figs dotted between the floral arrangements. As Jacquie and Jeni said: “It’s a tablescape designed to enjoy with friends, and really create a social environment to enjoy delicious food and beautiful wine together.”
If you’re looking for Italian style eating and wedding catering in Surrey and beyond, let’s chat! As a destination wedding bride myself, I’m always happy to bring some Mediterranean flair to any event!
